07/20/13 John Beasley in Stanford Dinkelspiel Auditorium United States
Stanford Jazz Festival – Stanley Clarke Trio – Musicians: Stanley Clarke, John Beasley – Just out of his teens, the phenomenal bassist Stanley Clarke was snapped up as a sideman by such jazz luminaries as Horace Silver, Art Blakey, Stan Getz, and Curtis Fuller. His groundbreaking work with Chick Corea in Return to Forever brought Stanley international renown, and paved the way for his collaborations with pop artists such as Stewart Copeland, Jeff Beck, and Ron Wood. A prolific composer—Emmy-nominated for his work on Pee Wee’s Playhouse—in his spare time Stanley also designs basses and runs a non-profit educational foundation. This special trio performance will no doubt showcase Stanley’s bass virtuosity.

07/21/13 John Beasley in Santa Fe Lensic Performing Arts Center United States
New Mexico Jazz Festival – Stanley Clarke Trio – Musicians: Stanley Clarke, John Beasley – Best known for his work with Chick Corea’s seminal electric jazz-fusion group, Return to Forever, Grammy- winning bassist Stanley Clarke has for four decades thrown down the gauntlet as one of the most chameleonic renaissance men of music. Renowned as a jazz bassist on upright and electric instruments, his work has touched the full spectrum of music from classical, film scores, chamber music to rhythm & blues, pop, funk and all strata of jazz. According to Clarke, his latest recording, The Stanley Clarke Band, released in 2010, is new and different from just about anything he’s done before. Featuring a range of collaborative material that allowed him to venture to new levels of experimentation utilizing his arsenal of bass instruments, the music harkens back to the first three albums of his solo career –– Journey to Love, Stanley Clarke, and School Days ––with long extended electric pieces. The Stanley Clarke Band brings their funky electric fusion to the Lensic Performing Arts Center for this New Mexico Jazz Festival concert.
